Susan was a part of a small group of campers that founded Adventures in Christian Kamping in 2002 and was granted the IRS tax designation 501(c)3, culminating two decades of camp leadership in Wyoming. In addition to working as a weekly director, writing curriculum and planning schedules, Susan has recruited, trained and equipped much of the volunteer staff. Susan has been chairmen of the board, and has served them by writing grants, leading program expansion, and presenting our story to community groups. Susan worships at Highland Park Community Church and is married with two children, Andy and Martha. Along with acting as the Executive Director for Haven on the Rock, she also has been the director of Medical Staff Services at Wyoming Medical Center for 20 years, and although she stays incredibly busy, Susan continues to maintain the beautiful vision that began when the camp did: Helping hurting young lives find Jesus and know Him better.
FACILITIES AND PROGRAMMING
ZACH AND KARISA BENNETT
Zach originally met Adventures in Christian Kamping (later Haven on the Rock) when he worked together with them at another camp in Wyoming called Lone Tree. After Zach and Karisa were married in 2009, they continued to work with Adventures in Christian Kamping, and in 2010 they became the Activity Staff Directors for the summer staff. In the spring of 2012 they stepped into full time camp ministry with Adventures in Christian Kamping at Rim Rock. Camp has always been special for both Zach and Karisa, and they bring a lot of experience to the table. As a youth Karisa attended and worked for another summer camp and is able to bring that experience – and her degree from Grace University in Intercultural studies – to this new ministry of which they are an integral part. Zach has had a number of years of experience as a ranch hand, as well as working for another camp. They are excited to have the opportunity to help create a special and safe place for youth to find their true identity in Christ, while teaching them what it means to be His follower. They are also grateful that their children Danny, Hope, and David get to see first hand what it is like to be part of a Christian community, and to see lives transformed week after week.
RECRUITING, MARKETING AND ADMINISTRATION
Preston and Alecia were married in January 2015, and just a few months later decided to spend their first summer together working as activity staff at Haven on the Rock. They fell in love with it and are so excited to share in the camp’s mission to share Christ through the camping experience. The Blakeleys met through a ministry at Casper College called Campus Ventures, where they have developed a passion for discipleship and seeing others grow in their walk with the Lord. Preston, originally from Glenrock, is a University of Wyoming graduate with a B.A. in Humanities. He has never met a stranger and is looking forward to more involvement with the camp community. Alecia is originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but has lived in Wyoming since her sophomore year of high school. She is also a UW graduate with a B.A. in Psychology. Growing up, Alecia was involved in other camps both as a camper and a counselor. She is excited to be more involved in the camping ministry as an adult. Preston and Alecia feel so blessed by the opportunity to serve at Haven and can’t wait to see God work in summers to come.
Scott Smith, Jr. grew up in the Metro-Detroit area and graduated from Spring Arbor University in 2006 with a bachelors degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and Marketing.
Scott has been very active in the lives of many youth in many different capacities. He has been a Christian school teacher and assistant Principal at Taylor Light and Life Christian School in Michigan. From there he became a full time missionary in Honduras and taught at an orphanage and used his talent of balloon twisting and Christian Illusions to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to many.
In 2012 Scott relocated and became a missionary to the Wild Wild West and moved to Lingle, Wyoming. He wanted to get involved with his local community and started to volunteer at Haven on the Rock as the Trading Post Manager, Bus Driver, assistant high school camp director as well as serving on the Camp Board of Directors. In September of 2015 he was hired by the camp to become the Finance Coordinator.
